Summary

A brilliant new thriller from Jennifer Hillier, the award-winning author of the breakout novels Little Secrets and Jar of Hearts。 Paris Peralta is suspected of killing her celebrity husband, and her long-hidden past now threatens to destroy her future。

When Paris Peralta is arrested in her own bathroom – covered in blood, holding a straight razor, her celebrity husband dead in the bathtub behind her – she knows she'll be charged with murder。 But as bad as this looks, it's not what worries her the most。 With the unwanted media attention now surrounding her, it's only a matter of time before someone from her long hidden past recognizes her and destroys the new life she's worked so hard to build, along with any chance of a future。

Twenty-five years earlier, Ruby Reyes, known as the Ice Queen, was convicted of a similar murder in a trial that riveted Canada in the early nineties。 Reyes knows who Paris really is, and when she's unexpectedly released from prison, she threatens to expose all of Paris's secrets。 Left with no other choice, Paris must finally confront the dark past she escaped, once and for all。

(JUNE BOTM)4 stars-I did like this book because it wasn’t super predictable。 It was one of those books that had kinda been done before but also hadn’t been done before。 The murderer was obvious but not obvious which makes it pretty good, but it was kinda far fetched and I found myself sorta confused w gaps at some points。 But it was a good story。

5 stars!!!This was so good。 I was so excited for this one, it was one of my most anticipated books of the summer and it didn’t disappoint!I felt at first it was a little slow but so worth it by the 35% mark or so, then it is just a wild journey filled with twists, lies, deception, and more。

This book took me over a month to finish, which is rare for me。 Mainly because I was so incredibly bored 90% of the time。 I thought the “twists” were soooo predictable and underwhelming and the story moved at an incredibly slow pace。 Overall I was underwhelmed。 The ending was pretty laughable。 I enjoyed some elements of the book such as the storytelling and the characters。 Quite a few cliches though。 Overall I wouldn’t recommend this if you read a lot of thrillers。

Amazing book that I did not want to put down!! Great twists and turns throughout。 Highly recommend anyone who wants a good mystery thriller。

I've read three books by Hillier, and this book has solidified her spot on my list of authors to buy immediately, not read the synopsis, and let the magic happen。 I've read three books by Hillier, and this book has solidified her spot on my list of authors to buy immediately, not read the synopsis, and let the magic happen。 。。。more

I gave it 3 stars I felt it was predictable once you get 1/3 way into the book。 The very end was not predictable。 I felt the writing was a bit weak and I never really felt part of the story just reading to read。

Another great psychological thriller from Jennifer Hillier。 Such an interesting story。 Although I guessed the twists along the way, it was still intriguing and kept my interest the entire way through。 Just read it already!

Paris Peralta gets arrested for the murder of her famous husband - a murder that looks eerily similar to a murder committed by Ruby Reyes twenty years earlier。 Paris knows her arrest could jeopardize her long-buried past。 Now, it’s only a matter of time before someone recognizes her。 Well, Ruby Reyes knows exactly who Paris REALLY is, and when Ruby is unexpectedly released from prison, Paris must confront the past she thought she escaped。 I’m really impressed TWDITD! Unlike a couple of Hillier’s other books I’ve read, this one didn’t have a major twist, at least not for me。 I figured out “the who,” but “the why” is the winner here。 Hillier develops a character-driven psychological thriller that slowly unveils the lasting effects of abuse, neglect, and childhood trauma。 The toxic relationship between mother and daughter is written brilliantly, riddled with emotional abuse, physical abuse, and generational trauma。 Bravo to Hillier for putting the trigger warnings at the beginning of the book because this one tackles lots of dark themes。 。。。more

Jennifer Hillier is a great storyteller。 The story of Paris Peralta's life is, at times, difficult to read, but like a car wreck, keeps you intrigued。 There are times, though, that the story moves very slowly, and the moving between past and present gets a little tedious after a awhile。 I loved the references to Filipino food and culture。 There are several twists and turns that may be surprising but breadcrumbs are left for you to figure it out beforehand。 I enjoyed this but it could have benefi Jennifer Hillier is a great storyteller。 The story of Paris Peralta's life is, at times, difficult to read, but like a car wreck, keeps you intrigued。 There are times, though, that the story moves very slowly, and the moving between past and present gets a little tedious after a awhile。 I loved the references to Filipino food and culture。 There are several twists and turns that may be surprising but breadcrumbs are left for you to figure it out beforehand。 I enjoyed this but it could have benefited from closer editing to shorten the length。Audio was well done, no issues - although the pronunciation of "turquoise" was not one I'd heard before。I received a copy from #NetGalley and #MacMillanAudio for an honest review。 。。。more

I was given this audiobook in exchange for an honest review via netgalley。In this story we meet Paris who comes to holding a razor over her famous husbands dead body。 She is arrested and questioned by police。 She thinks she is getting ten million from her husband's death but turns out she gets a ton more and is now in control of all of his estate。 I really can't say more than this because the first twist starts very early in the story。 I think it was a good thriller but I have read better。 It ju I was given this audiobook in exchange for an honest review via netgalley。In this story we meet Paris who comes to holding a razor over her famous husbands dead body。 She is arrested and questioned by police。 She thinks she is getting ten million from her husband's death but turns out she gets a ton more and is now in control of all of his estate。 I really can't say more than this because the first twist starts very early in the story。 I think it was a good thriller but I have read better。 It just had too many different story lines to get to the big plot twist。 It reads like a lifetime made for TV movie so if that's something you're in the mood for, go for it。 It was a good time but not very memorable。 However the narrator did an excellent job。 。。。more

Wow, Jennifer Hillier does it again。 This book hooked me from the very first sentence: "There's a time and place for erect nipples, but the back of a Seattle cop car definitely isn't it。" While I don't want to spoil anything, I do want to note that there is Sexual Assault, Pedophilia, and Child abuse/neglect in this book。 I had to take a couple deep breaths before I read some of the paragraphs。 Wow, Jennifer Hillier does it again。 This book hooked me from the very first sentence: "There's a time and place for erect nipples, but the back of a Seattle cop car definitely isn't it。" While I don't want to spoil anything, I do want to note that there is Sexual Assault, Pedophilia, and Child abuse/neglect in this book。 I had to take a couple deep breaths before I read some of the paragraphs。 。。。more

Jennifer Hillier has a way with writing that always has me sucked in。 I was intrigued with the first part, wanting to know if Paris was guilty of the crime she was accused of。 Then we got to part two with Drew and it felt like I was a part of the investigation。 I did figure out the plot twist about halfway through, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the read。 Jennifer Hillier has a way with writing that always has me sucked in。 I was intrigued with the first part, wanting to know if Paris was guilty of the crime she was accused of。 Then we got to part two with Drew and it felt like I was a part of the investigation。 I did figure out the plot twist about halfway through, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the read。 。。。more

Absolute garbage! Not only did it feel like multiple people wrote this book with the way it went from juvenile writing to slightly more exciting descriptions, there were so many annoyances on almost every page。 And as a chef, there aren’t five star restaurants。 There are three star restaurants。 Five stars are for hotels。 The author could at least get little details like that right with a simple moment of research, or you’d think someone in editing would。
